URGENT PRAYER REQUEST
SPECIAL PRAYER REQUEST:
AMAZON RABIES EPIDEMIC
Dr. Danny Andrango was not able to serve with the rest of the CPI medical mission team on the last day of the clinic at Zabala because he was called back to his post as the Director of the Taisha Hospital, due to an outbreak of Rabies among the indigenous people in the Taisha community. The Taisha Hospital is located in a remote region of the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle, accessible only by small plane.

A week or so prior to CPI's clinic, Dr. Danny treated two young indigenous children who presented with encephalitis. Dr. Danny transferred the children to the better-equipped Hospital in the larger jungle town of Macas, then traveled to Quito to prepare for the CPI clinic.

During the time Dr. Danny was in Quito, the two children died, and the cause was determined to be Rabies. Panic ensued among the residents of Taisha, and the Ecuadorian government called Dr. Danny back to his post. Missionary Karen Lambert sent CPI an update yesterday that sadly read:

"Wanted to let you know that I heard from Danny. He said he just left the room where a 15 year old girl just died from Rabies. He had a 2 year old air-flighted to the hospital in Cuenca yesterday and found out that she has Rabies as well. He said cases are still coming in each day, with no let up yet. He is fine...just tired."

Before Dr. Danny left the CPI clinic to return to the Taisha Hospital, CPI pharmacy workers Greg and Melissa Wallace loaded a suitcase full of medications for Dr. Danny and his hospital. Already CPI has received a "thank-you" letter from the Hospital Administrator, and CPI is thankful for the opportunity to bless the people of Taisha in this time of need.

PLEASE JOIN US IN PRAYER for this Rabies crisis to end, and that the Lord will give Dr. Danny and his fellow health care workers strength, mercy and grace as they deal with the frightened people of Taisha.
